New Year’s Resolutions for Dogs

Happy New Year! As we say goodbye to 2018 and ring in 2019, many of us will be making resolutions for the new year. If your canine pal could set goals for himself, what do you think they would be? A Somerville, MA vet lists some pawsibilities below.

Spend Time With My Best Friend

You’re the apple of Fido’s eye, and the center of his world. It’s no wonder that your furry bff’s number one goal would be to hang out with you as much as possible. Carve out quality time with Fido every day. It will be good for both of you!

Be A Good Door Doggy

One of the best things about having a dog is knowing that your canine buddy will always be super excited to see you when you get home. It’s great to come home to Fido’s adorable happy dances! That said, if your pooch tends to say hello to people by knocking them over, take time to work on his petiqette this year.

Explore

Dogs have a special enthusiasm that can be quite contagious. Fido loves getting outdoors and exploring new places! Take your pup to a doggy park, or explore a new trail with him. Just be sure to put safety first. Make sure your pet is microchipped, wearing ID tags, and current on his vaccinations and parasite control products. Also, keep Fido leashed, except in fenced-in areas.

Avoid Baths

We’re pretty sure that Fido enjoys feeling soft and clean. He’s just not very enthusiastic about the process of getting him there. (Sorry, buddy: it’s for your own good!)

Score More Bacon

If there’s one thing that gets that cute tail going, it’s the thought of a yummy treat. There’s nothing wrong with giving your pooch snacks. In fact, treats are beneficial in several ways. They’re a great way to reward dogs for behaving well or learning something new. They also brighten Fido’s day up, and help him feel loved, which will in turn strengthen the bond between you. Just stick to safe, suitable snacks.

Play

Dogs are adorable when they feel playful. Take time to play with Fido every day. In fact, let your pup’s enthusiasm be an inspiration to you. Have some fun this year!
