Hiding
As we all know, cats love exploring nooks and crannies. They are also very fond of naps. Therefore, you probably shouldn’t worry if you find your pet snoozing in a box or under the bed. However, Fluffy should emerge, bright eyed and bushy tailed and demanding dinner right meow, after an hour or two. If your pet doesn’t want to leave her hiding place, she might be sick.
Vomiting/Diarrhea
While the occasional hairball isn’t anything out of the ordinary, excessive or frequent vomiting is definitely not normal. Diarrhea is also a red flag, as are litterbox issues.
Poor Grooming
Fluffy is very diligent about keeping up with her beauty rituals. However, just like people, cats don’t always keep up with their usual routines if they are sick. If your kitty’s fur looks matted, greasy, or unkempt, she may be ill.
Respiratory Issues
Coughing, sneezing, and wheezing are all red flags in our feline pals. Runny noses and/or eyes can also be indicative of illness in kitties.
Lack of Appetite
Kitties can be quite finicky at times. Fluffy will instinctively turn that cute little nose up at anything that smells even a tiny bit off. However, if your furball is healthy, she should meow to demand something else. A cat that has little or no interest in food could be sick.
Behavioral Changes
Just like people, kitties often don’t seem quite like themselves when they aren’t feeling well. If Fluffy starts meowing more, less, or differently than usual, she could be sick. Uncharacteristic grumpiness, clinginess, or restlessness can also be warning signs.
