7 Ways to Keep Your Cat Purring

Our feline friends certainly have some pretty adorable traits. One of our favorite things about these quirky little furballs is the fact that they actually vibrate with happiness. Kitty purrs are one of life’s greatest treasures in our book! Read on as a Somerville, MA vet offers some tips on keeping Fluffy’s motor going.

Kitties need entertainment and stimulation to thrive. They also have a deep-seated urge to pounce on things. Provide your tiny lion with lots of fun toys to bat under the couch!

Window Seat

Our feline buddies are a bit nosy, to say the least, and love to spy on things. Give Fluffy a comfy window seat with a good view, so she can watch pigeons, squirrels, and/or pedestrians. Just make sure your windows close securely!

Daily Play Session

While your furry pal may love her catnip mice, as far as Fluffy is concerned, her favorite form of entertainment is you. Get some interactive toys, such as laser pointers or wand toys, and play with your cat every night. You may be surprised at how quickly your furball makes kitty playtime part of her normal daily routine!

Our feline pals can be quite interactive. Talking to your cute little buddy is another great way to make her feel loved and pampered. You may notice that Fluffy responds when you talk to her, by either meowing back, flicking her tail, or rubbing against your legs.

Kitty Furniture

Most cats aren’t exactly shy about borrowing our furniture. However, she’ll really enjoy having some things that she doesn’t have to share with her humans. Cat towers, pet tents, boxes, paper bags, scratching posts, and kitty tunnels will all help keep your furball happy.

Veterinary Care

We know, Fluffy would probably scratch this one off the list—literally—if she could. Most of our feline patients would rather stay home and take a nap than go to their doctors. (To be fair, so would we.) However, your furball will be both safer and healthier with proper care.

Last but not least, our animal companions need to feel loved to thrive. Pay lots of attention to Fluffy, and offer her lots of forehead rubs and head scritches.
